The ads Doyle Dane Bernbach produced for
Volkswagen in the 60s and 70s changed the face of advertising.'The ads that
made the Mad Men mad.
Doyle Dane Bernbach introduced
the Beetle with this dynamic ad that seemed effortless, yet possessed a
revolutionary approach to marketing. It connected with consumers, successfully
integrating European small design into a culture with a big lifestyle. This ad,
along with others from the campaign, was the first to represent a perfect
balance of image, copy and simplicity, setting a benchmark that has inspired
advertisers to do better ever since. (Written by Rebecca Coleman @ http://www.writingfordesigners.com/?p=1731)
I still remember the first time I saw beetle I was totally freaked out. I can't believe how Americans accepted this car. But after few times seen this car running on street I feel like this is a kind of lifestyle that we are talking about.

Volkswagen
appeals were islands of refreshing wit that extolled its products' virtues with
breezy self-effacement. "Live Below Your Means," advised one ad.
"Think Small," counseled another.

Normally Americans love big vechles such as trucks and SUVs but at this point beetle is taking over some girls' mind. Girls love people say they are cute and beetle just suit them well.

Most of these
kids probably didn't realize the Beetle was born of war, but it didn't matter.
They were too busy decorating the cars with flowers, "peace symbols,"
and psychedelic colors. Free-living hippies became especially fond of the roomy
Beetle-based Microbus because it was so easily turned into a rolling bedroom. . (1960-1969 Volkswagen Beetle

From this point I totally agree with it is because I have a lot female friends that love the VW beetle no matter what race are they. They think the VW beetle is cute and uniqueness.
